Montreal, January 4 – Over the holidays, more precisely on December 30, Opimian was the victim of a cyberattack. Someone attempted to access our credit card payment process to use unauthorized or stolen credit cards to obtain money.
Rest assured—the accessed credit cards do not belong to Opimian members. The attack was not designed to gather any personal data. No personal information was compromised.
Fortunately, we had recently updated our IT systems for exactly this type of new threat. The systems in place alerted us quickly to the issue; with the help of our partner, Global Payments, no transactions were allowed to go through. However, for security reasons, our merchant number was deactivated. If you tried to make an online purchase between December 30 and January 7, this is why you did not receive an order confirmation email.
For our Alberta members, this does not affect your wine purchase. Your payment process is still being handled by our partner, Rocky Mountain Wine, Spirits & Beer. However, if you tried to register to an event, the payment was not processed since it goes through the Opimian system.
We were able to solve the issue with our partner Global Payments. We updated our security systems. Our merchant number has been reactivated and you can now place orders online safely.
The Opimian team will now reprocess all orders placed after December 30 as a priority. You will receive a confirmation e-mail for your purchase. If you placed multiple orders, the Member Experience team will contact you to ensure that we reprocess the right one.
You can also now register for events as usual.
